About the project

The project implemented by the Czech Republic Czech Development Agency under the Programme of International Development Cooperation with Mongolia, entitled „Transfer of Know-How in the Approach to Eliminating Environmental Burdens " has the main goal to transfer specific experience of Czech experts in the field of environment contamination caused by human activities. The project started in October 2013 and will be completed in November 2014. The main partner on the Mongolian side is the Ministry of Environment and Green Development.

Within the project are processed methodological manuals and description of the different tasks in the area of remediation of environmental burdens. A preliminary survey of the selected contaminated sites in Ulaanbaatar and its surroundings - a province (aimag) Tuv, in the northern region of Mongolia - Darkhan-Uul aimag, Orkhon, Bulgan, Selenge and in the southeastern part of Mongolia - Dornogovi aimag was carried out.

Priority sites will be recommended based on the survey evaluation for further investigation and subsequent remediation. Changes in the Mongolian environmental legislation will be recommended by the project experts too. Also the project experts will make operational database providing information on contaminated sites in the country. An integral part of the project is intensive training for representatives of the Ministry of Environment and green development, especially members of the Council for the chemicals, as well as the Center for Environmental Information and the responsible authorities of the individual provinces throughout Mongolia.

The project follows the long-term cooperation between the Czech Republic and Mongolia, inter alia in the field of development projects. It is expected that between the years 2015 - 2017 the implementation of the follow-up project focused on a selected sites survey and the pilot tests of suitable clean – up technologies for the most common types of environmental burdens occurring in Mongolia will be carried out.
